Parade Information

One of the best-loved events of the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival is the annual parade.

The parade begins at the Winterset High School at 3:00 pm on Sunday and heads north on 8th Avenue before turning east on Court Avenue and continuing to the other side of town (on Court Avenue and Washington Street).

Simply complete the parade application and either mail, email, or deliver it to the Madison County Chamber of Commerce office at 73 Jefferson Street, Winterset, IA  50273. Contact us with any questions.

Where does the parade start and what is the parade route?
The parade lineup will begin at 2:00 pm at Winterset High School. The parade start time will be 3:00 pm. See the illustration above for the parade route.

How much does it cost to enter the parade?
No charge!  Entering the parade is free, and a great way to promote your club, church, organization, or business!

Can we hand out candy?
Because little ones along the parade route get very excited about candy coming their way, we request NO THROWING of candy or other items along the parade route. This is simply a safety issue. Parade participants may certainly walk along and hand out candy or other items on the route which is enjoyed and appreciated by everyone watching the parade.

Will restroom facilities be available while lining up?
We will have a portable unit at the staging area at Winterset High School.
